Village of Colonie Traffic Advisory Committee Meeting February 14, 2019 6:30 p.m. There was a meeting of the Village of Colonie Traffic Advisory Committee, held on February 14, 2019 at the Village Hall, 2 Thunder Road, Albany, NY 12205. The meeting started at 6:30 p.m. Chairman Prevratil called the meeting to order with a salute to the flag. Those Present: Chairman, Mr. Frank Prevratil Mr. George Lashoff Mr. John Gillivan (Absent) Mr. Daniel Hornick Mr. Les Samiof Mr. Dan Judge Secretary, Julianne Okun Colonie PD Officer, Jason DePaulo Liaison, Deputy Mayor Edward Sim Kevin France, DPW Traffic Advisor Correspondence: The Traffic Committee reviewed an e-mail from Mr. Gillivan. The e-mail detailed three possible events for Bicycle Safety in the Village of Colonie. Deputy Mayor Sim stated he is waiting for the final version of the bicycle survey for Locust Park residents so he may present it to the Mayor and the Board for approval. Deputy Mayor Sim also suggested some members of the Traffic Committee meet with Event Coordinator Carl Fleshman to discuss Family Fun Day. New Business: A discussion was held regarding the new LED lights on Central Avenue. Mr. Judge noted there are 5 poles that have yet to be updated. He has since made both Village Hall and NYSDOT aware. Old Business: Deputy Mayor Sim updated the Committee on the Lincoln Avenue restriction sign. The Mayor and the Board held a public hearing on February 4th with the straw poll taken at the meeting to be about 50% wanting the sign down vs. 50% wanting the sign to stay up. Deputy Mayor Sim observed that the arguments were mainly safety vs. convenience. The public hearing is still in the public comment stage until March 6th, after which the Board with make a vote. Deputy Mayor Sim informed the Committee of an accident at the intersection of Broderick and Gail. He had asked Officer DePaulo if the Police Department could patrol that particular street and suggested Broderick Street would be a good candidate for the “Drive Like Your Kids Live Here” sign campaign. Deputy Mayor Sim stated to the Committee the Mayor and Board have been in discussion about the upcoming budget. In the upcoming fiscal year, Hunting Road is set to be paved from Sand Creek to 1 Birch. He also stated they are also working on plans to improve the 4-way stops on Hunting Road with stop bars, STOP stencils on the road, and funneling the road at the intersection.
