Village of Colonie Traffic Advisory Committee Meeting May 9, 2019 6:30 p.m. There was a meeting of the Village of Colonie Traffic Advisory Committee, held on May 9, 2019 at the Village Hall, 2 Thunder Road, Albany, NY 12205. The meeting started at 6:30 p.m. Chairman Prevratil called the meeting to order with a salute to the flag. Those Present: Chairman, Mr. Frank Prevratil Mr. George Lashoff Mr. Daniel Hornick Mr. Les Samiof Mr. Dan Judge Mr. John Gillivan Secretary, Julianne Okun Colonie PD Officer, Jason DePaulo (Absent) Liaison, Deputy Mayor Edward Sim Kevin France, DPW Traffic Advisor Marcia Newfeld – Resident; 74 Locust Park Mr. Judge made a motion to approve last meeting’s minutes, as amended. Mr. Lashoff seconded the motion. Motion passes to approve the minutes from March 14, 2019. CORRESPONDENCE: Ms. Okun shared with the committee a resident from Gabriel had called Village Hall with concerns about speeding on Gabriel and asked for speed humps. Ms. Okun invited the resident to the traffic committee meeting to further discuss her concerns, however there was no one in attendance. NEW BUISNESS: Mr. Judge stated the “Drive Like Your Kids Live Here” signs will be moved to Broderick Street and will remain there for about 2-3 weeks. Other streets that will be in future consideration will be Red Fox and Lincoln. Deputy Mayor Sim suggested doing 2 streets at once, so that extra signs can be used on both the North and South sides of the Village. Mr. Judge stated the Locust Park and Broderick Street signs will be picked up June 1st and the committee will canvas Red Fox. Chairman Prevratil stated the committee should have IDs made before canvassing Village streets. Ms. Okun stated she could have them ready if the committee members would stop into Village Hall to have their photos taken. Ms. Marcia Newfeld of 74 Locust Park stated her concern that the signs are not effective. Ms. Newfeld suggested either speed bumps or stop signs. Ms. Newfeld stated years ago there was a petition signed by the residents of Locust Park advocating for speed bumps. Deputy Mayor Sim and Ms. Okun stated they looked in the files of the Traffic Committee and could not locate the petition. Ms. Newfeld stated she is willing to go out and petition again but would require assistance from neighbors to do so. Deputy Mayor Sim stated the DPW could get the radar trailer on Locust Park to slow down the speeding for right now. 1 OLD BUSINESS: Mr. Gillivan stated the Locust Park survey has received approval from the Board of Trustees and is ready to be canvassed. Ms. Okun will edit the survey with the Village seal as well as a place for residents to provide their e-mail address, should they wish to receive the results. Mr. Lashoff asked will they just be going to Locust Park, or will they venture out to the side streets, such as Cottonwood or Stirrup. Mr. Gillivan stated that is something they could discuss prior to administering the survey. Mr. Judge stated they should go out the week of June 3rd through the 8th. Chairman Prevratil stated Family Fun Day will be on June 8th from 12-5 and the Traffic Committee should have a table and representatives so residents can come and voice concerns. Mr. Gillivan stated they will also have the Bike Rodeo the same day, and the committee is looking to get a count of bicycle helmets left over from last year’s rodeo. Mr. Gillivan is also looking to get gift cards and bicycles for raffles. Mr. Hornick made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:45PM. Mr. Lashoff seconded the motion.
