Mayor Tobin opened the meeting of the Mayor and Board of Trustees at 6:30 P.M. with the Pledge of Allegiance. A motion was made by Deputy Mayor Sim to approve the minutes, as presented. Motion seconded by Trustee White. Clerk Blot read aloud a retirement letter from Treasurer Haas, stating she would be retiring on July 30, 2021. Deputy Mayor Sim and Superintendent Decker will meet with the awarded black topping company in the coming days to review the 2021 paving project. Once a schedule is established, a copy will be given to the board. Trustee Lockart asked that is we knew a time that National Grid would be fixing the gas issue on Hunting Road Wednesday, to which Deputy Mayor Sim said he did not know of a time yet, but once we found out, we will notify the residents. Chief Kayser said his daytime staff responded to a cardiac call to our DPW. He said his staff also responded to a high heat situation on Railroad Avenue, in packs and hazmat suits. He mentioned there was an accident on Central Avenue involving 4 vehicles, part of Central Avenue was shut down. He mentioned that the Fire Department received a national award from Hurst for the extraction involving the Sheriff’s deputy in 2020. The Chief added that the fire house calendars are out, some were disappointed it came out later than usual, but with COVID there were delays. The Chief mentioned that due to COVID and the inability to do the normal rose sale/turkey raffle fund raiser, that the fundraising proceeds are down. He did add that there will be a 2021 turkey raffle. Mr. Palumbo with CT Male and Mr. Andrews with Hoffman Development Corp. were present to discuss a rezoning request regarding the property located at 1755, 1757 and 1777 Central Avenue. If re-zoning is pursued a public hearing would need to be held at a regularly scheduled board meeting. Mr. Andrews also said he reached out to several surrounding neighbors to inform them of the intention to rezone the area and they received positive feedback and some of the neighbors requested a few trees be cleared out. Mr. Andrews mentioned that he is working to take down some trees in the back area as a cleanup measure. Trustee Lockart mentioned that the senior re-open is going well so far. The Senior staff is looking into bringing back some of the classes and looking to offer some new ideas. Deputy Mayor Sim thanked Superintendent Decker and the DPW for all their hard work with the lawn damage cleanup and for following up on the lawn damage complaints. Superintendent Decker stated that he has a great crew and they all have a fresh outlook. Trustee White added that the DPW is doing a great job and they are a nice group of pleasant guys. Mayor Tobin mentioned that tomorrow marks the start of the 2021 Concert Series in Cook Park, it will be the Luster King. There will not be food for the first show, but we hope to have something at the following one. Superintendent Decker mentioned that the park fountain pump Page 3 of 4 has been fixed. Mayor Tobin also mentioned that Carl Fleshman and Mr. Casey will be at the table for the 50/50 raffle for concert night. Mayor Tobin informed everyone that former Trustee Betty Film passed away at 91 years old. Betty was a Trustee from 1979-2014. She served as liaison to the senior center, assessor and was very involved with the youth and seniors. Betty was also very involved with the census.
