Mayor Leak opened the meeting of the Mayor and Board of Trustees at 6:30 P.M. with the Pledge of Allegiance, he also noted the exits. The following monthly reports were submitted: February 2019 Fire Inspection Report February 2019 Building Department Report February 2019 Outreach Report February 2019 Senior Center Report February 2019 Recreation Center Report Mayor Leak thanked DPW for a job well done maintaining the streets with the most recent snow fall. He also mentioned that he attended the “old timers” night at the firehouse and had a good time. He said there were about 96 people in attendance. President Coy added that about 54 of the attendees were “old timers”. Trustee Tobin mentioned that the amphitheater committee is finalizing the 2019 season line-up. He also mentioned that the planning commission will be meeting on March 5, 2019, there are 3 items on the agenda. Trustee Sim mentioned that the code revision committee continues to meet on Tuesday mornings at 10:00 a.m. to go over possible changes/additions/deletions to the code. He mentioned that the recycling committee is also now meeting at least once a month to keep on task with that grant, he noted that DEC awarded a grant of $50,000 to put towards our recycling initiative. We will be able to submit for our expenses to receive reimbursement at 50% of the cost incurred. We can make these submittals quarterly. He also mentioned that he along with the village office staff are looking into electronic purchase orders to integrate with our current software provider. He will keep the board up to date on any new development with that. Trustee Lockart mentioned that the seniors had 1271 attendees for the month of February 2019. 615 were village residents, 498 were town residents and the remainder were guests. She also noted that the outreach department helped many people the month of February with varying issues. Attroney De Cotis said that he is helping with the code revisions, and added that it is a big task. He also mentioned that the village committees and boards were reached out to for input. The code revision committee’s current focus is the fee schedule. Mayor Leak introduced Judge Sommers who was an attendee of the board meeting. Chief Kayser stated that there was 39 fire calls for the month of February, making the count for the year 83 so far. He thanked DPW staff and Superintendent Decker for their assistance with several issued this past week or two. Assistance included the 911 system failure, assisting the Albany County coroner and various issues caused by high winds. Chief Kayser also thanked those who attended the “old timers” night. Trustee Sim introduced Superintendent of School for South Colonie, Jon Buhner. Superintendent Buhner, introduced Mr. Wetzel and Mr. Robolatti, also from South Colonie Schools. Mr. Robolatti stated that each year they like to put a letter together for the Mayor to thank him for his continued support of the education system and the children of South Colonie, and the use of various village facilities. Mr. Robolatti added that he can’t think of anyone who cares more for the kids than Mayor Leak. Mr. Robolatti addressed the Mayor and stated that he would like to make him an honorary graduate of South Colonie and invited him to the graduation ceremony taking place in June this year, where he will be presented with a diploma. He thanked the Mayor for his support of all the alternative education programs the Village helps facilitate, without those programs some children would not have the opportunity to graduate. He added it’s made a difference for 100’s of kids. Mr. Buhner addressed the Mayor and said part-2 of this presentation was to let the Mayor know that he will be inducted into the South Colonie Hall of Fame at the graduation ceremony. Each year South Colonie receives nominations for inductees. Some years they pick one or two, something none. This year, the committee has elected Mayor Leaks nomination. Mr. Buhner said that Mayor Leak was nominated by Les Decker for this honor. Mr. Buhner said the Mayor has done many great things over the years, especially locally, and this honor is well deserved. Mayor Leak thanked the School representatives. He mentioned that he joined the Navy right out of school and to have this honor means a lot to him. He added that South Colonie cares so much about their kids and he does too. He mentioned that years ago, Trustee Sim came to him about a place for the kids to be able to play after school, to try and stay off the streets and out of trouble. At that time the decided to build what is today the recreation center. Mayor thanked everyone for coming to the celebration and added that as long as he is Mayor he is here for the kids.
