BLOT CLERK MINUTES VILLAGE OF COLONIE TRAFFIC COMMITTEE THURSDAY, APRIL 11TH, 2024 The Village of Colonie Traffic Committee meeting was held on Thursday, April 11th, 2024, at 2 Thunder Rd, Albany, NY 12205. Chairman France opened the meeting with the pledge of allegiance at 6:30 p.m. Roll Call: Chairman, Kevin France Present John Gillivan Present George Lashoff Present Les Samiof Present Michael Normandin Present John Lemperle Present John Dombroski Present CPD Liaison Investigator Curran Present Liaison Frank Prevratil Present The minutes from the regularly scheduled April 11th meeting were reviewed by the present members of the committee. A discussion was held regarding the multi-use path proposed in the Sand Creek Complete Streets Study. Mr. Dombroski made a motion to approve the minutes as presented, and Mr. Lemperle seconded this motion. Vote: All in favor. OLD BUSINESS: Members of the committee reviewed the lawn sign program, as it is set to begin the last weekend of April. Chairman France added that the program has continued to be a great, streamlined process. He stated that we have a fair number of new signs to use. Mr. Lashoff mentioned that he will hand out a list at each meeting that states who is scheduled to put out signs the following weekend. He further explained that once signs are picked up, committee members have the option to deliver signs on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Chairman France discussed the Red Fox Drive intersection, stating that the traffic counters would be going out on Monday, 4/15. They are going to be placed going Northbound, and Page 1 of 2 midblock between the two driver feedback signs. Then, the counters will be placed on Barker Street for a week. If the counts are not similar, it automatically does not warrant a 4-way stop sign. If the counts are similar, it may be beneficial to have a professional engineer investigate the intersection. Further, another option would be to move the driver feedback sign closer to the hill, to bring attention to the intersection. Mr. Lashoff asked if the traffic counts on Sand Creek Road would be completed this Spring, to which Chairman France replied yes. Traffic counts would be placed at the beginning and the end of the Village boundaries once the weather becomes warmer. These counts have been repeated each Spring and can be continued. DISCUSSION: A discussion was held regarding Family Fun Day, which is taking place at Cook Park on June 8th. Mr. Gillivan mentioned that he could investigate having a bike rodeo as like in years past, and Coordinator Curran offered that she would reach out to the CRTC to get materials for the table. As Investigator DePaulo has recently been elected Village trustee, Investigator Curran was appointed as the Colonie Police Department’s liaison to the Traffic Advisory Committee. Investigator Curran introduced himself to the committee, stating that he has been in the Traffic Safety Division with Investigator DePaulo for 7 years, with a strong focus on the Village where he is also a resident. Investigator Curran explained the new initiatives that the Colonie Police Department would like to take, with an emphasis on the new technology available to them. He encouraged committee members to reach out to him if they have any concerns, as he will bring them to the Traffic Safety Division. He also stated that he is a member of the NYS Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Committee, so he also encouraged members to forward him concerns that could be brought up to the state level. Liaison Prevratil introduced Trustee Mark Stevens to the committee, who was present in the audience. A motion was made by Mr. Dombroski to adjourn the meeting at 7:13 p.m. This motion was seconded by Mr. Lashoff. Vote: All in favor. Respectfully submitted, Hannah Curran Traffic Advisory Committee Coordinator Village of Colonie Page 2 of 2
