Deputy Mayor Sim explained that under New York State regulations that there be accident history and complaints in order to install four way stop intersections. Deputy Mayor Sim explained that the Village has both the accident history and complaints from the Village Traffic Committee and residents. Deputy Mayor Sim stated that he has spoken with Colonie Police Traffic Investigator Jason DePaulo, who also sits as police liaison on the Traffic Committee, to offer some insight or comment on this subject. Inv. DePaulo stated that this part of traffic safety is always a good idea and the Department has seen complaints about chronic speeders cutting through this neighborhood to and from Lincoln Ave. Inv. DePaulo stated that putting a four way stop will slow cars down and with additional enforcement will correct these driving behaviors. Inv. DePaulo added that according to his personal experience most of the offenders are residents within this neighborhood. Mr. Frank Prevratil, resident and Chairman of the Traffic Committee stated that the Committee has been working on his issue a long time and there have been so many accidents from people not obeying the stop signs. Mr. Prevratil stated that is it only a matter of time before something more serious occurs and this course of action is both needed and warranted. Mr. Dan Judge, resident and member of the Traffic Committee stated that he walked down this street during the Committee’s lawn sign campaign and saw first hand these issues and stated that he is happy to see the stop sign addition on Harriet St. Another resident in the audience wanted to say thank you from the neighborhood and thinks the four way stop is a great idea. Mr. Phil Minissale, resident, stated that this neighborhood needs these stop signs and it is always god to err on the side of caution. Speeding has been an issue for a long time. Mr. Rob Roemer, resident, said thank you. He stated that he has reached out to the traffic committee at the meetings and was excited to hear this proposal. Mr. Roemer stated that he has young drivers at home and this four way stop will give him more peace of mind when they leave the house. Ms. Mickey Angier, resident on Woolard stated that people use Harriet Street and Woolard Ave and cut through streets and many of these cars take a left on Holland Ave and now these drivers will have to hit the street light and wait. She believes the installation of the four way stop will work. Deputy Mayor Sim stated that the Board will vote on this law at the regular meeting starting at 6:30 p.m. He stated that this intersection will be striped like the Hunting and Locust Park intersection weather permitting. Deputy Mayor Sim stated that the striping might not get done until Spring however once the State accepts the local law, which takes about a month, the stop signs will go up.
