BLOT www.colonievillage.org VILLAGE CLERK MINUTES PUBLIC HEARING FOR RESOLUTION 2023-40 “AUTHORIZE TO EXPEND FUNDS OUT OF THE CAPITAL RESERVE SEWER REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT FOR PUMP STATION REPAIRS” MONDAY, AUGUST 21, 2023 6:30 P.M. A motion was made by Trustee White to open the public hearing. Motion seconded by Trustee Rubino. Vote: Trustee Lockart Absent Trustee Rubino Yes Trustee White Yes Deputy Mayor Sim Yes Mayor Tobin Yes Motion passed. The Clerk read aloud the public hearing notice as is appeared in the newspaper. Deputy Mayor Sim explained that the purpose of this public hearing is to authorize to use funds set aside in the capital reserve for repairs that need to be made to our pump station. Both pump stations are 50 years old and in need of repair. There is a pump station located at 1892 A Central Avenue, and one located at 48 A Sunset Boulevard. This expenditure is for the one located at 48 A Sunset Boulevard. Deputy Mayor Sim added that the Village authorized for a study to be done at both pump stations to evaluate the repairs that need to be conducted. This study allowed us to apply for a grant. The grant will reimburse us 25% of the cost of the project. The cost of the portion of the project for the Sunset Boulevard location is $1,060,570. The Village decided to focus on the Sunset Boulevard pump station first due to the surrounding houses, and if that pump station were to fail, it would effect the neighborhoods it is located around. They are going to try to hold off another year or two on the Karner Road pump station repairs. Superintendent Decker added that when the pump stations were built, technology was not what it is today, and the pump station sewage is located in a 30-foot pit. Any issues that have to be resolved, employees have to descend into the pit to do repairs, and that is a dangerous task. These proposed repairs would bring the pit to the surface on a rail system. Resident, Carole Trifiletti asked if we had a need for another pump station, to which Deputy Mayor Sim said we don’t need another pump station, we just need to make repairs to the ones we have. There were no further questions or comments from the board or public. Deputy Mayor Sim made a motion to close the public hearing. Motion seconded by Trustee White.
