GUILDERLAND: What better way to celebrate Earth Week than attending a public hearing?
The Town of Guilderland Zoning Board of Appeals is holding a public hearing on giving a special use permit to Pyramid for the proposed Costco to be built near Crossgates Mall. The hearing will be held on Wednesday, April 19 at 7:00 PM at the Guilderland Town Hall, 5209 Western Tpk, Guilderland, NY.
Pyramid is proposing an approximate 163,000 square feet Costco wholesale retail facility, including an 18 pump fuel facility, liquor sales and tire sales/installation on 16.46 acres.
This proposal includes construction of eighteen gas pumps. There is no doubt that the effects of climate change are being felt. We need to burn less fossil fuel and no more fossil fuel infrastructure should be built. There are several gas stations near this location, including an abandoned gas station just down the road. What is the Town of Guilderland thinking that it will allow the construction of such a large number of gas pumps, especially in a area zoned as a Transit Oriented District? We need to reduce the amount of fossil fuels we use and not build more gas pumps. We need to oppose this project.
Everyone is encouraged to attend the public hearing. For more information about the project and more detailed drawings, here is a link to the ZBA agenda which includes links to all of the documents submitted by Pyramid: https://play.champds.com/guilderlandny/event/269.
There are two public hearings on the ZBA agenda on Wednesday, April 19. The hearing on the proposed Costco is second on the agenda and will start after the first hearing ends. (It may be a long evening.)
Attendance is in person; there is no accommodation for calling in. People may watch the hearing from the Town of Guilderland website.Written comments addressed to the ZBA and emailed to the Town planner (kovalchikk@togny.org) can also be made.
