Guilderland Coalition for Responsible Growth, Save the Pine Bush, and Mothers Out Front object to tax abatement and donation of roads through eminent domain for Pyramid Corporation
GUILDERLAND, NY: The Guilderland Industrial Development Agency (IDA) is scheduled to make a decision at their meeting on Tuesday, June 26 regarding tax abatement and donation of roads through eminent domain to Crossgates Releasco (Pyramid Corporation) for the Costco proposed to be built on Western Avenue.
Originally, the tax abatement requested was approximately $475,000. Now, the tax abatement requested by Crossgates Releasco has been raised to more than $2,000,000.
Pyramid Corporation has sued the Town of Guilderland for many years over its property tax assessment. Now, it wants tax benefits that would cost all Albany County taxpayers.
In addition, the IDA is considering eminent domain to take town roads for the proposed Costco. Though eminent domain is designed to be used to take land for a public benefit, this taking will benefit a private corporation, Pyramid and its tenant Costco which requires membership for people wishing to shop at this retail store.
Members of Guilderland Coalition for Responsible Growth, Save the Pine Bush, and Mothers Out Front will be available to speak with the press promptly at 6:45. The IDA meeting will begin at 7:00 PM in Guilderland Town Hall.
