Bonding Threatens Stanford Home We are Citizens Working Together and Dedicated to Preservation of the Historic Landscape and Elegant Mansion in Niskayuna, on State Street and Balltown Road, known now as the Ingersoll Residence. This has been a Niskayuna Home and Country Estate, from Colonial Times in the 1760s; Current brick building built c.a. 1816 for his family by Niskayuna Town Supervisor Harmanus P. Schuyler; Home to five generations of the world renowned Leland and Charles Stanford Family, thus our chosen name for the home; Used since 1920s as a community- subsidized and locally tax-exempt, NY State licensed Charity for an Adult Home. The facility is presently under-used, serving about 23 people, and losing $10,000 per month. Plans to sell the land, dismember the home, level the hill, and build a mall, will permit developers to benefit from 80-years of tax-exemption. We seek to find a productive and suitable use for the future of the building as it now exists upon the hill, and the surrounding parklands. The 12.5 acres remaining are the center of: The elegant Hermitage of 800-acres established by John Duncan in the 1760s; Then becoming the 200 acres of farmlands during the Stanford family’s use from the 1850s to the 1920s; Then becoming the charitable memorial Ingersoll Adult Home. The current trustees of Ingersoll Residence plan to sell the entire site for $3.5 million and move to a yet to-be-built 74 bed facility in Niskayuna, which will cost $11.5 million to construct on a 4 acre site on Consaul Road.
