Speak out to Protect the Pine Bush in Colonie!

Tuesday, June 14, 7:00 PM

Town of Colonie Operations Center, Public Operations Center, 347 Old Niskayuna Road, Latham, New York 12110

Everyone who is concerned about Pine Bush preservation should come to this important hearing.

In 2005, after dozens of public meetings, the Town of Colonie created a Pine Bush overlay as part of the Town’s comprehensive plan.

This conservation overlay was a hard-fought victory for the Pine Bush.

Now, land owners in the Town of Colonie want to take away the conservation overlay the Town established for the Pine Bush. Below is an excerpt from a Times Union article. Come to this hearing and add your voice for the Pine Bush preservation.

Here is an excerpt from the Times Union:

Colonie Rezoning On Agenda
Tim O’brien Staff Writer, Times Union, 5/20/11 [Excerpt]
COLONIE — Almost two years after property owners asked for hundreds of acres to be rezoned, the Planning Board will hold a public hearing on the request.
Some 100 property owners argued the town’s adoption of a conservation zone in 2005 unintentionally turned their businesses into nonconforming uses. . .The land at issue includes property on Kings, Cordell, Morris and Curry roads as well as 8 Lupe Way. . . When the town adopted a comprehensive plan, the area was changed from industrial to single-family residential and commercial office with a conservation overlay.
That designation does not prevent development but puts the emphasis on the preservation of open space near the Pine Bush.
